What is Smooth Eye

Carried out using the Fotona Dynamis laser system, Smooth Eye treatments address signs of ageing around the eye area. Laser energy (Erbium 2940nm) is used in a unique non ablative mode called “Smoothmode”, which safely heats the superficial aspect of the skin around the delicate eye area, stimulating the production of collagen and also tightening existing collagen and elastin fibres to smooth and tighten the area treated.

Patients can choose to use this as a standalone treatment or add Smooth Eye sessions to a tailored treatment plan. There is no need for any needles or incisions, meaning this treatment is ideal for anyone who doesn’t want to undergo eyelid surgery.

Smooth Eye Treatment Process

The process will start with a consultation with Dr Omarjee, during which your specific concerns will be discussed and your skin analysed. The initial consult is critical to assess whether the Fotona Smooth Eye treatment can assist you concern and achieve your outcomes. Other options will usually also be discussed at this time.

On the day of your treatment, your skin will be cleansed. It is best to arrive without makeup or mascara. Additionally, you should avoid wearing contact lenses for one week following the procedure.

A prescription topical anesthetic will be applied to the periorbital area for 45-60 minutes to minimize discomfort during the SmoothEye treatment. Just before the procedure begins, your skin will be cleansed again.

Dr. Omarjee will then instill local anesthetic eye drops before carefully placing small, sterile stainless steel eye shields onto your cornea (similar to contact lenses) using an antibiotic ointment. This ensures your eyes are fully protected during the procedure. The process is quick and generally not painful.

As the Fotona SmoothEye laser moves over the treatment area, you may experience a warm, prickling sensation, but it is well-tolerated. The laser energy heats the deeper layers of the skin, causing them to contract and tighten while stimulating collagen production. This results in a firmer, smoother, and more elastic eye area.

The average Smooth Eye treatment takes less than 30 minutes to complete, making it easy for patients to work the sessions into their schedule.

Smooth Eye Recovery

Following a Smooth Eye treatment, patients can expect the eye area to look slightly red for 48 hours – some mild swelling may also occur. The treated area will feel slightly dry and there may be some peeling that lasts for about a week after treatment.

Heat exposure should be avoided for two days after a Smooth Eye session, with sunscreen being a must in order to enhance and maintain results. Fortunately, no downtime is necessary after your session.

Patients will see a noticeable difference directly after their session with Dr Omarjee but results will continue to improve for the next four to eight weeks as collagen production increases.

Smooth Eye FAQs

How many Smooth Eye sessions will be required?

This is all dependent on how your body responds to the treatment. In most instances, patients require around three treatments spaced six weeks apart. Maintenance sessions will also be required about nine months after your treatment plan was completed.

Do Smooth Eye treatments produce any side effects?

Over and above mild redness and swelling that lasts for around 48 hours, there are no serious side effects associated with Smooth Eye treatments. Patients can also expect some slight flaking but this won’t last longer than a week.

How do Smooth Eye treatments work?

The laser energy heats up the dermis at a deep level, which not only tightens the skin but increases collagen levels, which is what your skin needs to stay firm and youthful.
