  • Performed In Cosmetic Clinic with High Standard of Care
  • Save Time Money

The DOC Clinic is proud to be among the best laser hair removal clinics in Melbourne offering the very latest in hair reduction, including the Cutera ProWave LX, the Cutera Nd: YAG laser hair removal system, and the Soprano ICE that uses both alexandrite and diode technology. Our qualified laser therapists utilise this cutting-edge technology to reduce and remove our patients’ unwanted body hair.

The systems can be used safely and effectively on ALL skin types (including darker skin tones) for both body and facial laser hair removal. Our unwanted hair removal treatments are based upon the Fitzpatrick skin-typing system to assure optimal results and safe application.

The Process

In order to determine the best laser hair removal treatment, we perform an initial complimentary skin and hair assessment on each patient. This typically involves a spot test dose of laser treatment, which helps our laser therapists to determine whether the hair can be effectively removed or reduced. We will then recommend either Cutera or Soprano ICE laser hair removal– whichever method we believe will achieve the best cosmetic result for hair reduction.

During your scheduled consultation, your laser therapist will discuss recommendations and potential outcomes with you prior to the procedure, so you are both in agreement as to which technique(s) should be used.

Fitzpatrick Skin Typing

When considering Cutera or Soprano ICE laser hair removal, it’s important to make sure that your skin care professional uses Fitzpatrick skin typing as a guide for treatment. The Fitzpatrick skin typing test is used to determine the amount of laser energy needed to apply to the individual’s skin during their treatment sessions*. This method of skin typing compares lightness of the skin tone to determine whether a person is prone to burn or pigmentation.

There are different categories of skin labels using the Roman numeral system, ranging from Types I up to VI. Type I is applied to those who do not tan (or are at the lightest skin tone), and Type VI is the darker skin tone that never burns but tans often.

Laser treatment is considered one of the most convenient, non-invasive methods for unwanted hair removal and reduction on the face and body. Through cutting-edge technology, the Soprano ICE and Cutera laser hair removal systems leave the skin looking smoother and silkier than electrolysis, razors and waxing. The gentle technique can treat larger areas effectively, with minimal discomfort and no downtime.

Our laser therapists have years of experience in body and laser facial hair removal, successfully treating many different patients alongside Dr Omarjee. Through their combined work, The DOC Clinic is able to offer the very best laser hair removal to Melbourne patients in a safe Medical/Cosmetic Doctor driven Laser clinic.

Soprano Ice – Alexandrite And Diode

Soprano ICE laser hair removalis suitable for all Fitzpatrick skin types, ranging from Types I to VI (including tanned skin). Combining alexandrite and diode technology, the Soprano ICE can deliver effective results as a result of using multiple laser wavelengths. Treatment is virtually painless, with a controlled cooling device used to keep patients comfortable.

Cutera Prowave Lx And The Nd: Yag Laser For Dark Hair

We may choose to use the ProWave LX (for those with fairer skin tones) or the Nd: YAG Laser (for those with darker skin types) to remove unwanted facial and body hair, allowing us to effectively treat the needs of each patient and achieve the best laser hair removal results.

Each of these systems utilises a differing range of energies and corresponding wavelengths. The ProWave hair removal system ranges from the shortest wavelengths of 680-1100nm that yield the highest energy. This is best for lighter skin tones, as higher levels of melanin in darker skin tones may run the risk of absorbing too much energy and developing hyper or hypo-pigmentation.

For the benefit of the patient with types IV-VI, we use the Nd: YAG laser hair removal system at 1064nm.

Through the use of the Cutera laser hair removal systems, The DOC Clinic can achieve excellent possible cosmetic results. As noted by Cutera, “The ProWave LX hair removal system delivers a specially tailored light source for hair reduction.” The Nd: YAG laser hair removal treatment also delivers results when treating hair on darker skin types. Through this technology, patients of a wide range of skin types can be treated. An additional patient benefit is that each machine can treat large areas – such as legs and backs – quickly, safely and effectively.

Before treatment, it is essential that no plucking of the skin or waxing has been done. Hair follicles must be in the growth stage (anagen phase), meaning the bulb and the bulge of the follicle must be intact for the treatment to take effect. Not all hair follicles will be at the same stage in growth, but 30% or more should be and these will be targeted during the first treatment session.

Laser works best on darker coloured hairs (black, browns compared to blonde) and is usually ineffective for white, grey and red hair follicle based hairs.

During Treatment

During your Melbourne laser hair removal treatment at The DOC Clinic, you will be asked to lie down and wear a pair of patient goggles. These goggles will protect you from the intense pulse light or laser light energy from the Soprano ICE, Nd: YAG laser and ProWave hair removal systems.

Your therapist may apply a local anaesthetic cream lightly over the treatment area, removing it after a short time before any laser is applied.

The area will be clean shaven and an ultrasound gel will be applied to help guide the handpiece. Your laser therapist will move the handpiece over the treatment area, and since each spot is only gone over once with the laser, it’s an in-and-out treatment with little to no discomfort.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

For ideal laser hair removal results, patients will typically require at least 6-10 treatments for most areas. However, the number of treatments required for hair reduction and removal (and the results achieved) will depend on a range of factors. These factors include the area treated, the hair thickness, and the growth cycle of the patient’s hair. In some cases, patients may require additional treatment to disable all of the hair follicles and to ensure hair removal is successful. This is all discussed at your initial consultation and assessment by your DOC Clinic laser therapist.
