Haemangioma Treatment
Melbourne

Haemangioma Treatment

A haemangioma is a benign, flat or raised collection of blood vessels. They are also known as Campbell de Morgan spots and can appear on different areas of the body. While they usually have no medical consequences, some patients seek treatment for cosmetic reasons.

At The DOC Clinic, haemangioma treatment may be discussed using the Cutera Nd:YAG laser. Suitability and approach will be explained during your consultation.

Disclaimer

All treatments require a formal consultation with Dr Omarjee prior to any treatment. During this consultation, patients' concerns are carefully assessed, and a personalised treatment plan is developed. This includes discussing the nature of the proposed treatment(s), alternative treatments, potential risks and relevant complications, aftercare instructions, and the costs involved. It also allows time for patients to ask questions.

What Can I Expect During The Procedure?

There are several options for treating haemangiomas on the body. Haemangioma laser treatment or other surgical procedures can be performed depending on your suitability and specific concerns. At The DOC Clinic, Dr Ed Omarjee provides haemangioma laser treatment using the Cutera Nd:YAG Laser, the 1064nm (Nd:YAG), and also the 532nm (KTP) via the Cutera Excel V Plus and Cutera XEO laser platforms. The Nd:YAG laser delivers 1064nm of energy to target lesions and spots. Treatment is delivered through a laser handpiece, and some patients may experience discomfort.

While surgery is another option for treating lesions and spots, lifestyle measures may also be discussed. These can include:

  • Use sunscreen – to help protect the skin from further sun exposure.
  • Be aware of family history – if you may be more prone to haemangiomas, this can be discussed during consultation.
  • Maintain a balanced diet – eating fibre, fruits, and vegetables can support general health.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

The number of treatments needed can vary depending on the size and characteristics of the haemangioma. In some cases, more than one session may be required. Devices that may be considered include the Cutera XEO (1064nm) or the Cutera Excel V Plus (1064 or 532nm). Dr Ed Omarjee will assess the spot prior to treatment and provide information about how many sessions may be suitable for you.

What Sensations Can Be Expected?

Laser therapy works by delivering heat energy to the targeted area. Each pulse is short, and patients may experience sensations such as warmth or discomfort. The level of sensation can vary between individuals.

What Should I Know After the Procedure?

When undergoing any laser or surgical procedure, it is important to have realistic expectations. At The DOC Clinic, post-treatment care will be discussed with you, including steps to help protect your skin and support your overall treatment plan.

After haemangioma laser treatment, daily use of a high-SPF sunscreen (SPF 50+) is usually recommended, as the skin may be more sensitive to sunlight. You may also be advised on a skincare routine with ingredients such as vitamin B, or vitamin C, depending on your individual needs.
