At The DOC Clinic, we offer advanced Cutera laser treatment, Excel V Plus, to efficiently renew the skin with minimal downtime. This modern device is non-invasive and versatile, capable of treating a wide range of vascular and pigmented blemishes. Due to its multipurpose nature, the treatment can be a desirable option for patients who want a non-invasive, gentle way to improve their skin tone, texture and redness.
The device stimulates the skin’s collagen production through laser energy, a process suitable for people of different ages and skin types. If you are seeking to improve your skin tone, texture, and appearance non-invasively, get in touch with Dr Ed Omarjee for a personalised treatment plan.
Cutera Excel V Plus in Melbourne
Excel V Plus treatment at The DOC Clinic is personalised and designed with the patient’s own skincare concerns and goals in mind. The device itself features three handpieces and adjustable spot sizes and wavelengths. This allows for a high level of customisation and efficiency and makes it a popular device for the treatment of the face, neck, décolletage, and body.
Excel V Plus uses gentle micro-pulses of energy that penetrate the skin in the treatment area. These wavelengths (either 532nm or 1064nm) heat the targeted tissue and are absorbed by the melanin, blood vessels, and deep layers of skin to trigger collagen remodelling. This, in turn, helps to minimise the appearance of unwanted pigmentation, visible veins, signs of ageing, and many other issues. Additionally, the technology features an inbuilt cooling function, helping to minimise damage and side effects compared to other laser devices.
Prior to treatment, patients need to discuss their needs with a qualified physician who can outline what to expect from a personalised treatment plan with the Excel V Plus laser.
The benefits
This unique and TGA-approved laser allows us to treat a variety of skin types, conditions, and issues, including:
The treatment has the advantage of being non-ablative, which reduces damage and post-treatment side effects compared to ablative lasers. This means there is little to no downtime after the procedure, making it a more convenient option for people seeking to improve their skin’s health and smoothness.
When considering the benefits, patients should note that results may differ for each individual. Ensure you weigh the benefits against the potential side effects, and discuss your treatment with a professional, such as Dr Omarjee.

Types of Excel V Plus treatment
Excel V Plus is customisable, with its dual-wavelength capabilities and multiple handpieces. This allows us to personalise the following treatments:
Broken Capillaries & Telangiectasia
The Excel V Plus laser treats various areas where broken capillaries or telangiectasia (spider veins) are present. Common areas include the face and legs. The laser energy uses intense beams of light which are absorbed by the skin, leading to the coagulation and diminishing of visible blood vessels. The 532nm wavelength can target telangiectasia, also known as red veins or spider veins, while the 1064nm wavelength can target reticular veins (deeper blue veins).
After broken capillaries treatment, ensure that you follow Dr Omarjee’s aftercare instructions. Depending on your treatment plan, we may advise that, for a short period of time, you wear a compression stocking to aid the effects of laser vein treatment on the legs.
Facial redness and rosacea
Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition characterised by swelling and redness in the face. Over time, it can lead to enlarged blood vessels, commonly around the nose and cheeks, making it one of the most prevalent vascular issues treated with Excel V Plus. The laser gently heats the upper dermis, working to smooth dilated veins and redness.
In addition to a personalised Excel V Plus, patients can manage this condition by maintaining a gentle skincare routine and managing triggers (such as sunlight, spicy foods, caffeine, and hot or cold temperatures).
Pigmented benign lesions
Pigmentations can be a result of sun damage, ageing, lifestyle factors, and genetics. They can include skin conditions such as flat moles, freckles, sun damage, and Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra (DPN), all of which can be treated with Excel V Plus.
DPN is an age-related condition commonly experienced in darker skin types, characterised by dark lesions on the face and neck. These lesions are typically benign and can be treated by Excel V Plus, with the new 2mm spot size pencil-like ‘Dermastat’ tracing handpiece. This handpiece helps to efficiently treat small lesions on the face and body.
However, there is a risk of hypo- and hyper-pigmentation, as well as recurrence, which can be minimised with adequate sun protection and recommended skincare before and after treatment.
Skin rejuvenation
Excel V Plus can also be the treatment of choice for patients seeking skin rejuvenation and treatment for signs of ageing. The device features a Genesis handpiece, which delivers micro-pulses specifically designed to stimulate collagen and skin remodelling, as well as refine and smooth skin tone.
This is achieved with two different laser options:
- Laser Genesis – This procedure is a 1064nm treatment, designed to treat wrinkles, fine lines, skin tone and texture, large pore size, and scarring such as acne scars. Its gentle micro pulses stimulate collagen production in the skin, making it a popular procedure for patients who desire to improve their skin tone and texture.
- Green Genesis – This is a new variation of the traditional Laser Genesis (1064nm) treatment and targets similar issues. However, it has the added advantage of using micro-pulsed 532nm to enhance precision, efficiency and effectiveness. It is particularly useful in treating redness, pigmentation, and sun damage.
When combined into one treatment, these laser treatments can target different levels of the skin for a more thorough skin rejuvenation treatment. Generally, four to six treatments are recommended to achieve the desired results, which can be spaced two to four weeks apart.
Candidates
Although many patients are satisfied with their outcomes, not everyone is a suitable candidate, and some may be suitable for one option rather than another. For example, Green Genesis for skin rejuvenation is typically only suitable for lighter skin types and people who do not have conditions such as melasma. Thankfully, the highly customisable nature of Excel V Plus allows us to cater to your needs.
Also, be mindful that since all treatments with Excel V Plus are personalised, the results, number of treatments, risk factors, and aftercare may vary. Therefore, you can schedule your treatment only after a private consultation, which you may book online or by phoning the clinic and speaking to our friendly reception staff.
What to expect during treatment
Upon your arrival at The DOC Clinic on your scheduled treatment day, you will be given a consent form to read prior to the treatment. The information on this form will have already been discussed with you during your consult prior to the treatment date. The next step is taking professional medical clinical photographs to be stored securely with your medical notes.
Following this is the actual treatment. Each patient may have a slightly different experience with Excel V Plus treatment, depending on how their treatment has been customised. Most treatments take around 20 to 30 minutes.
Before treatment, your skin will be cleansed and prepared. You will need to wear protective eye shields for the duration of the procedure. Typically, the procedure is well-tolerated, and patients describe a feeling of warmth on the skin as the laser emits pulses of energy. Aided by the device’s sapphire crystal cooling system, the cooling operates before, during, and after each pulse of energy. This means topical anaesthetics are not generally needed.
The results are gradual, as the skin’s healing mechanisms and collagen production will need time to develop.
Aftercare
During the post-treatment phase, it is important to follow your physician’s skincare guidelines to protect your treatment sites. For example, you should avoid using fake tanner, waxing, and hair removal in the treatment areas. Also, avoid practices such as exfoliating and using products with harsh ingredients, such as:
- Benzoyl peroxide (e.g acne based creams)
- Salicylic acid
- Vitamin A (e.g Retinol)
- Glycolic acid
- Other irritants
It is also advised that patients avoid direct sun exposure for two weeks, both before and after treatment. You can wear sunscreen immediately after treatment and return to your normal activities, as the procedure does not require downtime.
Risks and side effects
The Cutera Excel V Plus laser is non-invasive and non-ablative. Although it is less harsh than other laser treatments, risks and side effects can still occur. Therefore, it is necessary to know the risks before embarking on your treatment and discuss any concerns with Dr Omarjee.
Expected side effects of Excel V Plus include:
- Redness and mild swelling (can last from one to two days or even longer for more significant treatments)
- Mild discomfort (mild feeling of sunburn is common, and can last for a day post-treatment)
- Skin sensitivity (usually lasts a few days)
- Scabbing of the skin (and even blistering) can be seen (mostly when treating superficial brown spots on the skin)
- Darkening of the treated skin (this occurs when treating brown spots on the skin and also sometimes when treating superficial blood vessels, and resolves usually over one to two weeks)
These are not typically a cause of concern and should resolve in a few days. However, there is a risk of uncommon adverse effects, such as prolonged swelling, pain, discolouration and, very rarely, scarring. If you have any post-treatment concerns, our team can provide further support and guidance.
